Saudi Arabia’s “Jeddah Tower,” currently in the works, is poised to surpass Dubai’s renowned Burj Khalifa, becoming the world’s tallest building.

Expected to reach over 1km in height, this skyscraper will house corporate offices, residences, and hotels, according to Architectural Digest. It will also boast the world’s highest observatory.

Featuring a unique “three-petal footprint” design for aerodynamic efficiency and reduced wind load, the tower stands out for its innovative approach to architecture.

Additionally, the tower will house dynamic lifts capable of reaching speeds of 10 meters per second.

Construction began in 2013 but faced setbacks, including a pause in 2018 due to the arrest of Bakr bin Laden, president of the contractor company, BinLaden Group. Further delays ensued amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, in September 2023, construction resumed, marking progress toward the completion of this monumental project.

Estimated at $1.2 billion, the tower will anchor the Jeddah Economic City, a $20-billion mixed-use district situated along the Red Sea coast.
