COSCO, a state-owned multinational conglomerate headquartered in Shanghai, has unveiled what it claims to be the “world’s largest” river-to-sea electric container ship.
Formed as a subsidiary in 2016 through a merger between COSCO and China Shipping, the company specializes in marine transport.
Dubbed the Green Water 01, this massive vessel, weighing over 10,000 tons, sets a new standard for sustainability in the marine logistics industry. Operating between Shanghai and Nanjing in China, the Green Water 01 marks a significant step towards environmentally friendly shipping practices along the Yangtze River.
Measuring 120 meters in length and 24 meters in width, the Green Water 01 boasts a battery capacity of 50,000 kWh, expandable to 80,000 kWh if required. Its innovative design incorporates batteries housed within specific containers, enabling charging in the harbor or exchange via cranes.
