Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies if Apple integrates OpenAI’s ChatGPT into its operating system.
Musk took to social media platform X to express his concerns, stating that such a move would be an “unacceptable security violation.
” He also mentioned that visitors to his companies would have to “check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage.”
Musk’s remarks came after Apple announced its partnership with OpenAI, which would allow users to access ChatGPT through Siri.
However, it seems that Musk has misunderstood the extent of the integration, as Apple has clarified that users’ requests will not be stored by OpenAI and their IP addresses will be obscured.
Despite this, Musk remains adamant that Apple is “selling users down the river” by partnering with OpenAI.
The feud between Musk and OpenAI is not new, as Musk co-founded the company in 2015 but had a falling out with the startup. He has also launched his own AI startup, xAI, which is seen as a competitor to OpenAI.
The ban on Apple devices would affect employees at Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, and other companies owned by Musk. The move is seen as a drastic measure, but Musk is adamant that he will take it to protect user privacy.
