The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has revealed that residents of Lahore are utilizing 500 GB of complimentary Wi-Fi data on a daily basis.
Approximately 50,000 individuals are availing themselves of this service daily, spread across 100 different access points throughout the city.
Over the past month, an estimated 1.2 million people have accessed this free Wi-Fi, collectively consuming 11,775 GB of data. Spearheaded by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, this initiative aims to furnish residents with vital connectivity during emergencies, facilitating communication with authorities and loved ones.
However, the free Wi-Fi service is restricted to essential utilities. It supports emergency apps, police communication, and taxi bookings, while excluding entertainment platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.
The emphasis is on delivering practical and indispensable connectivity rather than recreational usage.
