Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah convened a meeting with a delegation comprising 22 members from the Pakistani American Law Enforcement Society (PALES) of the New York Police Department (NYPD) to exchange insights on their respective policing systems.
During the session, PALES extended an offer to train provincial local police officers in various areas such as street crime management, intelligence operations, traffic control, and surveillance.
Led by Rohail Khalid, the PALES delegation comprised officers specializing in integrity control, traffic enforcement, intelligence, training, identification, patrol, and other fields.
Sindh Home Secretary Iqbal Memon, IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Secretary to CM Raheem Shaikh, and other officials were also present.
Acknowledging the NYPD delegation, CM Shah delved into discussions concerning terrorism in Karachi, attributing it to the aftermath of the Afghan war and regional dynamics. He lauded the efforts of the police and law enforcement agencies, supported by his administration, in combating terrorism.
Highlighting the prevalent challenge of street crime, CM Shah emphasized ongoing operations by the police and rangers. He mentioned governmental initiatives to amend laws and incorporate technology in combating recidivism.
Echoing the sentiment, delegation members emphasized the deterrence effect of surveillance on potential criminals, noting that technology could play a pivotal role in crime control.
Expressing gratitude for the offer, CM Shah directed the IGP to explore the proposal further and devise a plan for sending police officers to New York for training.
