Pakistan has recorded its wettest April since 1961, with rainfall more than double the usual amount for the month, as reported by the national weather center.

The country faced several days of extreme weather in April, resulting in numerous casualties and extensive damage to property and farmland. Experts attribute the heavier rainfall to climate change.

Last month, Pakistan experienced a 164% increase in rainfall compared to the typical April levels, according to a report released by the national weather center on Friday.

The intense downpours particularly impacted the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southwestern Baluchistan provinces.

In 2022, devastating summer floods claimed over 1,700 lives, destroyed millions of homes, and caused extensive damage to farmland and the economy.

At its peak, one-third of the country was submerged underwater. Pakistani leaders and numerous scientists worldwide attribute the unusually early and heavy monsoon rains to climate change.
