Pakistan has unveiled a statue of Punjab’s first Sikh ruler, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib. The ceremony was attended by Sikh pilgrims from India.
Ranjit Singh was a prominent leader and the founder of the Sikh Empire in the early 19th century. He is widely admired as a hero within the Sikh community for his strong leadership, military prowess, and efforts to unify the Punjab under Sikh rule.
The statue of Ranjit Singh was previously installed at the Lahore Fort, but it was vandalized by extremists on multiple occasions. The decision to relocate the statue to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib was made to protect it from further damage.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Punjab’s Minister for Minority Affairs, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, and officials from the Project Management Unit Kartarpur.
The installation of Ranjit Singh’s statue at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib is seen as a significant gesture of goodwill towards the Sikh community.
It is also a recognition of Ranjit Singh’s contributions to the region’s history and culture. The statue is expected to become a popular pilgrimage site for Sikhs from around the world.
