Reports on Saturday indicated that the Caretaker Government has significantly raised flour prices at Utility Stores nationwide. The price hike affects both 20kg and 10kg flour bags, with a rise of Rs1544 and Rs772 respectively.
Following the adjustment, the price of a 20kg flour bag surged from Rs1296 to Rs2840, while the 10kg bag increased to Rs1420. Previously, in the open market of Punjab’s provincial capital, the 20kg flour bag price had reached Rs2,900.
Moreover, the price of a 40kg wheat bag exceeded Rs4,800 in the open market, marking a Rs50 increase. Consequently, shopkeepers in Lahore were selling the 20kg flour bag for Rs2,930 and the 10kg bag for Rs1,470.
Efforts to curb the activities of the ‘wheat mafia’ are underway, with monitoring by Punjab’s authorities. Meanwhile, in Karachi, flour prices reached Rs3200 per 20-kilogram bag, surpassing rates in Islamabad and Punjab.
Karachi saw a Rs200 surge, while Hyderabad witnessed a Rs140 increase, pricing the 20kg bag at Rs3,040.
